THE JESUS OF THE BIBLE

The following page is meant to provide an introduction to the Jesus of the Bible. We encourage you to explore the links and resources below.  We also want to challenge you to read the Bible for yourself. There are four books in the Bible, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, that tell the first hand account of Jesus' live and ministry. If you are just getting started, we recommend you begin by reading  John. A word of caution though, you just might find a Jesus you did not expect. You might find a message you have never really taken seriously enough. If you feel God calling out to you as you are exploring the life of Jesus we encourage you to reach out to us so we can help!
The Person of Jesus
Jesus in the Old Testament:
In Gensis Chapter 3 we see the stage being set for the coming of Jesus to this earth. He did not show up in the middle of the story, He is the center of the story. The entire Bible, including the Old Testament, finds its meaning in the person of Jesus Christ. He is the Jewish Messiah, the one promised to come and save the world. We cannot know the Jesus of the Bible if we divorce Him from the Old Testament.

The Humanity of Jesus:
God himself took on flesh and became a man. The Son, who has always existed as the second person of the one triune God, was born of the virgin Mary and permanently became a man. One of the beautiful things about the humanity of Jesus is that it allowed Him to take our place on the cross. It also makes Jesus very approachable. He has been in our shoes. He has suffered, he has felt our pains and our joys.

The Diety of Jesus:
The Bible claims that Jesus is God. As God, He made the world, everything in it and holds it all together. As a man, He took our place and died on a cross. As God, the grave could not hold Him and he rose from the grave conquering death and hell forever. He proved His love for us and is worthy of all our worship and praise.

The Work of Jesus
The Atonement:
According to Wayne Grudem, "The atonement is the work Christ did in his life and death to earn our salvation. Jesus said, speaking about himself, "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:17 ESV." The atonement rests on all that we have already shared about Jesus. The simple point is that Jesus loves us so much that He gave His life for us so that we could be made right before God and spend eternity with Him.

The Resurrection:
Many people have a appreciation for Jesus. He was a kind, wise, and loving man. His teachings have help shaped the Western World. However, He was and is more than just a good man with wise council. Good men with wise council die and remain in the grave. The linch pin of Christianity rests in the Resurrection.  Jesus came back to life! Because He lives, we can live. The same power that raised Him from the dead is the same power waiting for all those who follow Him. Power to change us, to empower us, and to raise us up to heaven where we will live forever.

His Return:
After Jesus resurrection He ascended to heaven. He said, "if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also." The Bible speaks a great deal about Jesus' return. Jesus will not allow this world to continue in its current condition forever. He is coming back to remove the darkness of evil and establish a new heaven and earth where His followers can live with Him forever.
